Resin Casting Chocobos

Lately I've been learning to cast things in resin, a lot of people want lower priced sculptures and this seemed like one of the ways to lower the price while still retaining some form of uniqueness.

Here's a picture of some partly painted chocobos:

Commission: Twintania (and some WIP shots!)

I get a lot of questions about my sculpting process, so I thought I'd share some work in progress pictures of my newest commission.

When starting a project I'll do some basic sketches, this also allows the commissioner to choose a pose if they are unsure with what they want. The top right pose was chosen from the following sketches.

Next I'll do a rough sculpt of the pose, at this stage I make sure to use plenty of strong wire for the frame and then cover that with epoxy sculpt (I use milliput) for extra strength.

Next I'll start detailing it, I use various tools to work with the clay, my favorite being wax carving tools but I'll also make my own if I require a certain texture.

Continuing detailing...

Detail finished! Now to start painting!

Unfortunately I don't have progress pictures for the painting stage, but generally I'll put the base colours down using an airbrush before working onto it using a paintbrush.
